Lions spend large parts of their day in family groups sleeping either because of the intense heat of their natural habitat or because they have just gorged themselves on a kill.
Female lions in a pride are almost always related and do not exhibit any social dominance over one another. Although no individual female lion is the leader when one moves to hunt the others move in unison to work as a family team. This drawing is typical of the moment when one of the pride takes to her feet and moves off in search of prey.
